The story/report would be based on the area comprising parts of Begunia and Bolagarh blocks of Khurda District and Bhapur block of Nayagarh District which is one of the most affected area in the state and has drawn worldwide attention for fluorosis menace.The story would be begun with the incident of outbreak of fluorosis in the twin villages of Balsingh and Singhpur in Khurda way back in 1987-88. It would have the coverage on the major sources of drinking water, fluoride level in the water in the village tube wells, dug wells, bore wells and dug wells of the affected area along with the causes of ground water contamination with fluoride. Chemical analysis of the water from the nearby hot spring at Tarabalo, the second largest hot spring in Asia would also be discussed in the story. The impact of fluoride contamination on human health i.e the gravity of dental fluorosis, or skeletal fluorosis cases , the death due to fluorosis in the affected area would be find places in the story. Besides, the impact of ground water contamination on cattle and agricultural production in these parts would be placed in the story. The story would also have a look on the role, the state and central Government in testing of all the water sources, sealing of tube wells having excess fluoride, supplying safe and fluoride free water and organizing health check up camps in the affected area etc.
For the trustworthiness of the story all the data will be collected on water from CGWB, CPCB, SPCB and other confirmed sources. Interviewing some scientists and researchers would make the story more interesting.
