The Alaknanda Ghaati Shilpi Federation ( Aagaas Federation) – Aagaas, is a community based voluntary non-profit making organization formed in 2002 to work towards the socio economic development of rural mountain communities in Uttaranchal and registered in 2004 under the Societies Registration Act, XXI , 1860. Aagaas is also registered under 12- A of Income tax Act.
The organization is affiliated to Earth Charter International, Earth Charter youth Group and SAYEN Asia. Honored by Recognition Award by of World Bank in Washington D.C. in 2005. Felicitated by Animal Welfare board of India in December 2011 for animal welfare activities. Aagaas is know for the Center of excellence for the Himalayan Bamboo ( Ringaal- Arundinarai spp.- hill bamboo) in Chamoli District.
