हिम पथ नमूना एकीकरण बिन्दुओें की श्रृंखला से मिलकर बना होता है। सामान्यत: ऐसे बिन्दुओं की संख्या 10 से कम नहीं होती। इन बिन्दुओं का स्थान पूर्व निर्धारित ज्यामितीय के अनुसार 50 से 100 फुट की दूरी पर होता है। इस पथ के सिरे स्थायी रूप से चिन्हित होते है ताकि प्रत्येक वर्ष इन्हीं स्थानों पर हिम का परीक्षण हो सके।
