कुछ निकासी बेसिनों के नीचे की भौगोलिक संरचना इस प्रकार की होती है कि एक बेसिन पर गिरा रहा अवक्षेपण दरारों तथा जल युक्त स्तर से होकर अपना मार्ग किसी दूसरे, नजदीक अथवा दूरवर्ती निकासी बेसिन में अथवा सीधे समुद्र में बना लेता है। इसे जलविभाजक क्षरण कहते है।
