Founded in 2002, NyayaBhoomi is a fiercely independent NGO. We seek a responsive and accountable system of governance by making use of the pro-people provisions of various laws and by attacking corruption, nepotism and file-pushing culture.
“Autorickshaw Star Club” is one of our ambitious projects. It is the first and only serious attempt to improve autorickshaw service in Delhi. The member-drivers are fully trained, well attired, carry valid documents, and are thoroughly verified for their antecedents. The project has two well defined objectives:
1. The people should get a quality transport service at a reasonable cost; and
2. Autorickshaw driver should lead a life of dignity and get a fair price for his service.
With a disciplined and fully trained force of 20,000 ASC member-drivers expected to hit the road by the end of 2009, citizens can look forward to unparalleled comfort. From the funds generated by using autorickshaws for branding and advertising opportunity for corporates, auto drivers will be provided a range of benefits such as insurance/pension plans, finance, bank accounts, etc.
“Operation Accountability” is another of our ambitious projects. This project aims at ensuring that the government and the politicians roll up their sleeves and deliver; and do not get away unquestioned with mere rhetoric, shoddy performance and corrupt practices. The project is guided and supported by the tenets of the RTI Act, the applications and interpretations of which we have extensive experience and expertise in. The underlying purpose of the project is to force politicians to initiate the process of much needed change in the system of governance.
NyayaBhoomi is also a member of Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms which is led by the noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan.
The organization is the only voice of autorickshaw drivers in Delhi, and enjoys the support and goodwill of almost all of them. It operates from a 1,000 square feet office located adjacent to the 655 year old Feroze Shah Kotla citadel.
